Recycling Drop-Off

Curbside Service Information:

LCSWMA does NOT provide curbside collection of trash or recycling. This service is provided by private haulers who bring the material to LCSWMA once it’s collected. Contact your local municipal office for more information on trash collection or recycling service at your home or place of business.

For residents who do not have curbside recycling service, LCSWMA offers free drop-off recycling at each of its facilities. Materials are limited to the Big 4 (see below). All other material must be thrown away.

Anyone caught illegally dumping will be prosecuted.

What Can Be Recycled?

Do not put anything other than the Big 4 in your recycling bin (see more information below). Remember the phrase: “When in doubt, throw it out!”. LCSWMA will transform discarded waste into renewable energy.

If you think something may be recyclable, visit earth911.com for a list of potential drop-off locations. You can also visit the City of Lancaster’s Drop-Off Recycling Center to deliver materials such as newsprint, office paper, magazines, paperboard, and more.

The Big 4 Includes:

Corrugated Cardboard: This includes material consisting of a fluted corrugated sheet, like shipping and packing boxes. Flatten all boxes and remove packaging, including Styrofoam, peanuts, bubble wrap, and plastic liners. Do NOT put paperboard (cereal boxes, tissue boxes, shoe boxes), pizza boxes, newsprint, or junk mail in the recycling bin. Learn how to recycle cardboard!

Plastic Bottles and Jugs: This includes plastic bottles, jars, jugs and anything else with a neck. Throw away the lids and rinse out any residue. All other plastic material is considered trash. Ignore the numbers, as they don’t indicate if something is recyclable. Do NOT put plastic bags, toys, buckets, packaging, Styrofoam, hosing, furniture, or other plastic items in the bin. Learn how to recycle plastic!

Metal Food and Beverage Cans: This includes all food and beverage cans made from aluminum or steel. Throw away the lids and rinse out any residue. Do NOT put metal hangers, cooking pots and pans or other scrap metal like foil and pie plates in the bin. Learn how to recycle metal!

Glass Jars and Bottles: This includes clear, green and brown glass bottles and jars. Throw away the lids and rinse out any residue. Do NOT put light bulbs, dishes, glassware, window or automotive glass, vases or any other glass material in the bin. Learn how to recycle glass!
