Environmental Stewardship
LCSWMA’s responsibility is to protect our beautiful community by managing waste in ways that minimize the impact to people and the natural environment, while also reducing our own eco footprint. To support this process, LCSWMA established an Environmental Management System (EMS) that is certified by the International Organization of Standards (ISO 14001).
LCSWMA’s EMS takes a comprehensive, proactive approach to reducing our impact on the local ecosystem and encompasses the following:
- Compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, rules, policies, and other requirements;
- Dedicating the resources necessary to meet or exceed environmentally related permit requirements;
- Continually improving our environmental performance and prevent pollution;
- Continuing to set and evaluate environmental performance goals;
- Considering environmental factors as they relate to LCSWMA Facilities and operations, especially when planning new projects, purchasing new equipment and reviewing/implementing operational practices;
- Communicating the environmental policy to all LCSWMA employees and persons working on behalf of LCSWMA;
- Providing employees, the opportunity to continue their environmentally related education through seminars, course-work or similar venues; and
- Continuing to share regulated environmental performance information with the public in accordance with the LCSWMA’s Public Information Policy.
Additionally, LCSWMA became a member of the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) to engage in habitat conservation, biodiversity promulgation, and public education at our facilities. Both our closed Creswell Landfill and active Frey Farm Landfill are Certified Gold through the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Conservation Certification program.
